British schoolgirls who traveled to Syria contact families

Xinhua, May 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Three British schoolgirls who had reportedly traveled to Syria have made contact with their families, local media reported Thursday.

The three young girls from east London were reported missing earlier in February. They were believed to fly from London to Turkey and then crossed into Syria to join Islamic State.

Shamima Begum and Amira Abase, both 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16, studied at the same school.

After about three months, two of the girls had contacted their families through the Internet, and another one called relatives in Britain, saying she is healthy, safe and well but has insisted that she and the others do not intend to return home soon, according to ITV News.

It was reported that the families believed the messages are genuine. Endit
