Defending champion Maria Sharapova breezed past Russian compatriot Vitalia Diatchenko 6-3, 6-1 to reach the third round at the French Open tennis tournament here on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Sharapova, who won the title here twice in 2012 and 2014, faced little challenge from world number 91 Diatchenko and won the match in 80 minutes.

Sharapova, winner of five Grand Slam champions, will next play 2010 finalist Samantha Stosur of Australia. Endi
