Bangladeshi police arrest two suspects in gang-rape case in capital

Xinhua, May 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bangladeshi police has arrested two suspects accused of masterminding the gang-rape of a 20-year-old woman in a running microbus by five men here last week.

About a week after the gang-rape of the tribal girl, Bangladesh 's elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) late Tuesday night arrested two youths -- Tusher and Lavlu -- in connection with the sensational incident.

"We've arrested two persons who are accused of masterminding the crime," RAB spokesperson Mufti Mahmud Hassan told the media on Wednesday.

During preliminary interrogation, he said the suspects confessed that they raped the girl after dragging her into the vehicle.

Tusher said he came to contact the victim on May 17 at the shop where she was working as a salesgirl.

"I've talked to her at the shop and managed to obtain her cell numbers," he said.

He admitted that he lured the girl with a better job at a buying house with high salary.

Rape is a punishable offence in Muslim majority Bangladesh.

Tuesday's verdict came amid the public outcry that followed the incident in Dhaka last week. Endi
