Vietnam's foreign arrivals down 12.6 pct in first 5 months

Vietnam is expected to receive some 3. 275 million person-times of foreign tourists in the first five months of 2015, down 12.6 percent year-on-year, said Vietnam's General Statistics Office (GSO) on Tuesday.
Among the figure, some 2.694 million person-times of international visitors are forecast to travel to Vietnam by air, down 9.8 percent year-on-year. Some 555,700 person-times come to the country by road, down 23.1 percent while some 25,800 person- times go by sea, down by 34.4 percent, according to the May monthly statistics report posted on GSO's website on Tuesday.
During the five-month period, a total of 2.152 million person- times of tourists from Asia travel to Vietnam, down 12.8 percent year-on-year.
Vietnam is likely to welcome some 525,000 person-times of visitors from European market and 267,500 person-times of travelers from American market.
At the same time, arrivals to Vietnam from Oceania are to reach 148,900 person-times during January-May period, said GSO.
Markets of Vietnamese tourism witnessing decrease during the period include China (down by 29.8 percent year-on-year), China's Taiwan (down 1.5 percent), Russia (down 16.5 percent), France ( down 6 percent), and Australia (down 9.3 percent) among others.
Meanwhile, the country is projected to receive more tourists from some markets compared to the same period of 2014 including South Korea (up 35.3 percent year-on-year), Singapore (up 6.2 percent), and the United States (up by four percent) among others. Endi
