Thailand's export value declines 1.7 pct in April

Xinhua, May 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

The value of Thailand's exports dropped 1.7 percent year-on-year in April to 16.9 billion U.S. dollars, the Ministry of Commerce said Tuesday.

For the first four months of this year, the country's exports were worth 70.2 billion dollars in total, down 3.99 percent from the same period last year, Somkiat Triratpan, director of the ministry's Trade Policy and Strategy Office, was quoted by Bangkok Post as saying.

Somkiat attributed the fall in exports to the delayed recovery of the global economy and decline in oil prices.

In April, the value of Thailand's imports stood at 17.4 billion U.S. dollars, a 6.84-percent reduction from a year ago, while the figure for imports in the first four months was 69.3 billion dollars, down 6.53 percent year-on-year, according to the ministry.

Thailand posted a trade deficit of 523 million U.S. dollars for April and a trade surplus of 906 million dollars for the January- April period, statistics showed. Endi
