Six people, all civilians sustained injuries as three short-range BM-1 type rockets slammed into Pul-e-Khumri city, the capital of northern Baghlan province on Tuesday, a police officer, Abdul Rashid Bashir, said.

"Six innocent civilians including a woman sustained injuries as three BM-1 rockets fired by enemies slammed into different parts of Pul-e-Khumri city at noon time today," Bashir told reporters here.

It is the first time the militants firing BM-1 rockets on a city in the conflict-ridden country.

Meanwhile, Abdul Alim Ghafari, deputy to public health department of Baghlan province, has confirmed that five injured persons, one of them in critical condition, have been taken to hospital in Pul-e-Khumri city.

Bashir also said that the rockets came from Dand-e-Ghori area where heavy fighting has been continuing since Monday.

Government forces, he said, launched cleanup operations in Dand- e-Ghori on Monday morning and so far 10 Taliban insurgents have been killed and several others injured.

Taliban militants fighting the government have yet to make comment. Endi
