Nikkei ends 0.12 pct higher on weaker yen

Tokyo stocks ended 0.12 percent higher Tuesday as investor sentiment was lifted by the yen's fall against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 23.71 points, or 0.12 percent, from Monday at 20,437.48, the highest close since April 2000. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange ended 0.42 points, or 0.03 percent, higher at 1,659.57.

Gainers were led by iron and steel, air transport and pulp and paper issues.

The turnover was 2,054.33 billion yen (about 16.87 billion U.S. dollar). Endi
