PNG police review agreement with Australia

Xinhua, May 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Papua New Guinea's police commissioner has said he will review the policing agreement with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Australian Broadcasting Commission reported Tuesday.

Police commissioner Garry Baki has raised concerns that AFP officers don't have reporting responsibilities to his office, which he says is not in line with the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) modernization objectives.

Seventy three unarmed AFP officers are currently stationed in PNG, assisting the RPNGC in the fourth phase of a program to boost community policing.

An AFP spokesperson said they welcome the opportunity to discuss the ongoing partnership between the AFP and RPNGC. Endi
