Sea pollution poses threat to tourist season in Albania: report

Urban waste and sewage risk to affect touristic season in Albanian coastal cities, especially in Durres, local media said on Monday.

According to daily Panorama, visitors in Durres complained over the sea pollution. They said that the level of pollution is high and it will increase if authorities will not undertake administrative measures.

Local media warned that the Albanian National Environmental Agency has not announced any monitoring action along coastal cities and this situation will affect tourism and economy.

Meanwhile, in the region of Patok, the only visitors at the sea are livestock because the road infrastructure is all amortized which creates difficulties for vehicles. The bridge that links the Adriatik village of Kurbin with Gotulla's sea is dangerous and unsafe even though residents tried to repair it.

Lana and Ishem rivers flow all urban waste in Adriatic Sea and the pollution has infected sea animals that obliged fishermen to give up fishing in this area. Fishermen complained that no one has intervened to reduce the pollution. Endit
