The Green One UN House (GOUNH), an environmentally friendly building home to the United Nations (UN) family working in Vietnam, was inaugurated Saturday in capital Hanoi.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the UN house in Vietnam is a building with effective use of energy, being friendly to the environment and an example for consistency and cooperation among UN agencies.

Currently, 16 UN organizations in Vietnam are situated in 13 different locations in Hanoi. GOUNH is considered full implementation of the One UN Initiative. Participating UN organizations and agencies in Vietnam will co-locate and work together to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the UN in Vietnam to "Deliver as One".

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said at the ceremony that the event marks a milestone in the implementation of "Delivering as One" in Vietnam.

"The GOUNH is the embodiment of Vietnam's strong commitment to the work of the United Nations. It constitutes our commitment to the reform of the United Nations development system. Vietnam is committed to strengthening the coordination, coherence, efficiency and effectiveness of the UN system," said Minh.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is paying a visit to Vietnam on Friday and Saturday at the invitation of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang. Environmental sustainability and climate change is the focus of his trip, according to a press release by UN in Vietnam on Saturday. Endi
