Jordan set to launch massive projects worth 18 bln USD

King Abdullah II of Jordan said Friday projects worth 18 billion U.S. dollars will be launched in the kingdom.

In his speech at the opening session of the World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea, Jordan, the King said the projects will be in fields of energy, water, ICT, transport, railway and infrastructure.

The forum will witness the launch of several investment projects by local, regional and international investors, which will help create jobs and alleviate unemployment, King Abdullah said.

He also called for joining forces to fight extremism, which harm economic growth in the region.

Themed "Creating a Regional Framework for Prosperity and Peace through Public-Private Cooperation," the forum is attended by about 1,000 politicians, economists and representative from 60 countries.

Several heads of states including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas are taking part in the forum, which will run until Thursday. Endit
