Two protesters were shot dead by police and 11 others seriously injured on Thursday in separate incidents in the Burundian capital Bujumbura during protests against the third term bid of President Pierre Nkurunziza, witnesses and the Red Cross said.
"Our rescue teams counted two dead persons in Musaga and in Ngagara neighborhoods and evacuated 11 seriously injured others to hospital," said Burundi Red Cross Spokesman Alexis Manirakiza.
He indicated that the 11 injured persons were counted in Bujumbura city's various neighborhoods in the center, the south and the north.
Witnesses confirmed that the incidents took place when police agents fired live bullets against protestors while they were attempting to disperse them.
More than 25 persons have been killed since protests against Nkurunziza's third term bid broke out on April 26 in some neighborhoods of Bujumbura.
Nkurunziza's third term bid in the forthcoming presidential election due on June 26 is seen by the Burundian opposition and civil society as a "violation" of the country's constitution and the 2000 Arusha Agreement that provide a two-term limit for a president of Burundi. Endi
