EU Eastern Partnership Summit causes traffic restrictions in Latvian capital

Xinhua, May 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Authorities are taking security measures and are imposing major traffic restrictions here as the Latvian capital city hosts the European Union (EU)'s Eastern Partnership Summit on Thursday and Friday.

Authorities promised, however, that the restrictions on public transport and pedestrian traffic would be minimal around the National Library building, the venue of the Riga Summit.

Latvia's Delfi news portal reported serious traffic congestions in Riga on Thursday, saying they mostly affected passenger cars and taxicabs in the city.

Significant restrictions have also been introduced at Riga International Airport. Its administration has asked passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before the departure of their flights.

Also, only passengers and staff are allowed into the airport's terminal on Thursday and Friday, and passengers are asked to use public transport to get to the airport. Endit
