Indian President congratulates President of Togo on his re-election

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has congratulated Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe on his re-election for a third term in office.

"On behalf of the government and the people of India and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our hearty congratulations on your re- election as the president of the Republic of Togo," President Mukherjee said in a message to President Gnassingbe.

He added: "I wish you success in your continued efforts to lead your country into a new phase of progress and development. India and Togo share a long history of friendship and cooperation. I look forward to working with you closely in further strengthening our bilateral engagement."

In the April 2015 presidential election, Gnassingbe won a third term, defeating his main challenger Jean-Pierre Fabre. Endi
