Myanmar's ecotourism conference to focus on developing local ecotourism industry

Myanmar will host the first-ever 2015 World Ecotourism Conference in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday aimed at developing ecotourism industry in the country, sources with the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism Monday.
Organized by ministry and the Nepal-based International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry, the conference expects to host around 200 attendees including tourist ministers and officials, representatives of travel agencies, ecotourism experts.
The three-day conference will focus on planning and management of ecotourism in and around protected areas to generate income for local communities, ensure conservation, and address climate change.
Myanmar received 3.05 million tourists in 2014, with an expectation to attract 5 million tourists in 2015.
Since its initiation of ecologically based tourist in 1998, Myanmar's areas of natural beauty have become renowned among adventure tourists, particularly those in the lucrative 35-54 age range.
The inaugural World Ecotourism Conference was held in Laos in 2009, followed by Malaysia in 2010, Cambodia in 2011, South Korea in 2012 and the Philippines in 2014. Endi
