Iranian nuclear talks make some progress, efforts needed: China's envoy to IAEA

Xinhua, May 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Some progress has been made while many issues still need to be resolved in the Iranian nuclear talks, China's envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Cheng Jingye, on Friday told reporters here.

Based on the framework deal made in Switzerland in April, negotiators from Tehran and so called P5+1 group (permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) are making their effort to reach a final deal by the end-June deadline.

Though the framework deal has been made, gaps remain in details of the accord, especially about the relief of sanctions imposed on Tehran.

Earlier, Iran's negotiator, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told the Austrian press agency (APA) Iran wants a deal which respects its legitimate rights and would terminate the sanctions.

On Thursday, Araqchi also met with the head of UN nuclear agency, Yukiya Amano, who has been urging Tehran to clarify the alleged nuclear weapon program, which Iran denies.

Western states and Iran want a final deal to put an end to the decade-old stand off, under which, Iran would significantly scale back its atomic plan in exchange of nuclear related sanction relief. Endit
