FTSE 100 up 0.34 pct on Thursday

FTSE 100 Index, British benchmark stock market gauge, Thursday increased by 0.34 percent, or 23.41 points, to 6,973.04 points.

There is little economic data on Thursday. The mood of the London stock market was supported by comments from the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Donald Kohn, Federal Reserve vice chair, said that a June interest rate hike is off the table. Reports quoting his words said the Fed would likely tighten policy in either September or December.

3i Group led the top losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 3.03 percent, followed by Mondi (2.76 percent), Shire (2.42 percent), Hikma Pharmaceuticals (2.41 percent) and easyJet (2.24 percent).

Kingfisher's share price increased by 2.33 percent, topping the gainers of the blue chips. Sainsbury, Anglo American, Aberdeen Asset Management and GlaxoSmithKline increased by 2.29 percent, 1.86 percent, 1.38 percent and 1.38 percent respectively.

The index has gained 8.12 percent so far this year when measured in U.S. dollar. Endit
