Roundup: Hong Kong stocks close 0.14 pct higher

Hong Kong stocks closed up 37.27 points, or 0.14 percent to 27,286.55 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,192.93 and 27, 397.67. Turnover totaled 126.62 billion HK dollars (about 16.34 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index ended down 83.60 points, or 0.60 percent, to close at 13,775.95 points.

Three of the four sub-indices gained ground. The Utilities sub- index rose the most at 0.57 percent, followed by the Commerce & Industry at 0.52 percent, the Properties at 0.19 percent, while the Finance dipped 0.21 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, edged up 0.06 percent to 74.8 HK dollars.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, gained 0.45 percent to close at 33.4 HK dollars.

Local bourse operator HKEX went down 1.07 percent to 275.8 HK dollars.

China Mobile, China's dominant mobile carrier, closed flat at 105.2 HK dollars. China Unicom, another Chinese telecom giant, fell 0.86 percent to 13.84 HK dollars.

Local property stocks went up in general. Sun Hung Kai, one of Hong Kong's largest property developer by market value, rose 0.38 percent to 129.7 HK dollars. Henderson Land closed flat at 61.95 HK dollars. CKH Holdings went up 0.12 percent to 161.9 HK dollars.

Mainland-based financial stocks closed lower. Bank of China fell 0.17 percent to close at 5.06 HK dollars. China Construction Bank lost 0.54 percent to 7.31 HK dollars. Bank of Communication slipped 0.26 percent to 7.53 HK dollars. ICBC moved up 0.3 percent to 6.49 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec ended flat at 6.9 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, lowered 0.53 percent to 9.37 HK dollars. CNOOC plunged 2. 34 percent to 12.48 HK dollars (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars) Endi
