Vietnam eyes at least 10 swimming golds at SEA Games

Xinhua, May 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Eight Vietnamese swimmers will compete at the 28th SEA Games, targeting to bag home at least 10 golds, the online version of local newspaper People reported Thursday.

According to experts, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, Vietnamese's top female swimmer, has a very high chance of winning six golds at the regional sporting event, slated for June in Singapore. She is taking a training course in the United States.

Besides Anh Vien, hopes are pined on male swimmers, including Hoang Quy Phuoc, Lam Quang Nhat and Tran Duy Khoi. Phuoc has been sent to Japan for long-term training with an aim to achieve high results at the 28th SEA Games and in preparation for the 2015 World Championship and 2016 Olympics qualifiers.

Nhat, who won one gold at the 27th SEA Games, will head to Singapore with the mission of defending his 1,500m freestyle title. The 18-year-old Khoi from Ho Chi Minh City has gained three national golds in recent years.

Vietnam will send nearly 500 athletes to compete at 28 of 36 events at the 28th SEA Games, targeting 60-70 golds, the Voice of Vietnam reported. Endit
