Dutch airlines to launch direct flight to Myanmar

The KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is planning to launch a direct flight between Amsterdam and Yangon early next year in light of growing tourists from the Netherlands, the military-run Myawaddy media reported Thursday.

The report Quoted the Department of Civil Aviation as saying that the flag carrier airline of the Netherlands plans to fly thrice a week between the Dutch capital and Myanmar's former capital with Boeing aircrafts, adding that if the flight is economically visible, the airlines would extend direct flight to Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw as well as the number of flight to Yangon.

Myanmar saw thousands of Netherlandish people visiting the country annually.

Meanwhile, a meeting between Myanmar's Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and the Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) and the International Trade Center (TIC) of Netherlands last year revealed that Myanmar will get monetary assistance from the Netherlands for its tourism development.

The cash assistance of the Netherlands Trust Fund III will be provided under an agreement of CBI and ITC for implementing the National Export Strategy for Myanmar's tourist development.

Myanmar is implementing a tourism-related Master Plan 2013-2020 which was drawn with the assistance of international organizations.

Tourist arrival in Myanmar remarkably reached 3.05 million in 2014, up 49.5 percent from 2013. The earning through tourism during the year hit 1.14 billion U.S. dollars, breaking the record of the previous year's 914 million U.S. dollars.

The country targets to receive 5 million tourists in 2015.

Foreign investment in the hotels and tourism sector reached 2. 157 billion U.S. dollars as of February 2015 since the country opened its door to the world in late 1988, according to official statistics. Endi
