FTSE 100 up 0.23 pct on Wednesday

FTSE 100 Index, British benchmark stock market gauge, Wednesday increased by 0.23 percent, or 15.83 points, to 6,949.63 points.

Lifted by some good reports from listed companies, the London stock index rose on Wednesday. But the gains narrowed after the Bank of England scaled back its economic growth forecast for Britain.

The British central bank, Wednesday cut its forecast on Britain's economic growth for 2015 from 2.9 percent to 2.5 percent, and for 2016 from 2.9 percent to 2.6 percent in its latest quarterly forecast report.

Mondi led the top losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 8.94 percent, followed by Fresnillo (5.05 percent), Persimmon (4.12 percent), Barratt Developments (3.39 percent) and Randgold Resources Ltd. (2.95 percent).

Compass Group's share price increased by 3.78 percent, topping the gainers of the blue chips. TUI AG Reg Shs, Morrison (Wm) Supermarkets, Admiral Group and Aggreko increased by 3.67 percent, 2.37 percent, 1.56 percent and 1.46 percent respectively.

The index has gained 7.55 percent so far this year when measured in U.S. dollar. Endit
