1st LD: 68th Cannes Film Festival kicks off

The 68th Cannes Film Festival (Festival de Cannes) officially kicked off Wednesday evening in the southern French sea resort of Cannes.

A total of 19 films, including two Chinese films, Jia Zhangke's Shan He Gu Ren and Hou Hsiao-Hsien's Nie Yinniang, were selected to compete for the top prize Palme d'Or.

This year's Cannes Film Festival runs from May 13 to 24. Endit
