1st LD: Gunmen attack guest house in Afghan capital

Xinhua, May 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

A gunfight broke out at a guest house frequented by foreigners in Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday night, with feared casualties, an official source said.

"The firing took place at 08:30 p.m. local time in Shahr-e-Naw area. We still cannot provide precise details on causalities. There is fear of possible causalities," the source told Xinhua anonymously.

The clash is still going on there, said the source.

The security forces arrived at the scene shortly after the gun shots. The area is cordoned off by the security forces, witness Mohammad Naqib told Xinhua.

A meeting was underway and several foreign officials were expected to attend it before the attack took place, the witness said.

No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack, but the Taliban insurgent group routinely claims responsibility for such attacks.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since mid-April when the militant group launched an annual rebel offensive against Afghan security forces. Endi
