Xinhua, May 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thirteen people were killed early Tuesday morning by members of Ugandan rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a civil society source told Xinhua.

According to Gilbert Kambale, the territory's civil society leader, the attack occurred in Mavivi locality which is situated about 40 km from Beni town in eastern region.

Speaking to Xinhua on phone, the spokesman for the national army in Beni territory, Maj. Victor Masandi did not confirm the number of people killed in the attack.

"We battled the assailants until 11:00 p.m on Monday. We defeated them and they fled towards the forest," he continued.

The attack came at a time when the region's civil society groups are continuing with protests to push the government to find a lasting solution to repeated attacks by ADF rebels. Endi
