Cambodian PM says satisfied with Cambodia-South Korea ties

Xinhua, May 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Wednesday that he was satisfied with the good relations and cooperation between Cambodia and South Korea, a spokesman said.

He made the remarks during a meeting with visiting South Korea' s Speaker of Parliament Chung Ui-hwa, according to Eang Sophalleth, a spokesman for Hun Sen.

"The prime minister told His Excellency Chung Ui-hwa that he was very pleased to see the progress in ties and cooperation between the two countries," he told reporters after the meeting.

Hun Sen suggests that the two countries exchange the visits of leaders and officials frequently so as to further enhance the bilateral ties.

He said the two countries still have much room for bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, tourism, and human resources development.

For his part, Chung said since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1997, the bilateral trade volume has increased 15 times to over 1 billion U.S. dollars last year.

On the investment side, he said, South Korea is the second largest investor in Cambodia with the cumulative investment of 4. 46 billion U.S. dollars as of last year.

Earlier in the day, Hun Sen and Chung jointly inaugurated a South Korean-funded Eye Care Center in capital Phnom Penh. Endi
