2nd LD: 41 killed in bus attack in Pakistan's Karachi

At least 41 people were killed and a dozen others injured when unknown gunmen opened fire at a passenger bus in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Wednesday, officials said.

A Senior Superintendent of Police said that the attack happened at about 9:30 a.m. local time (0430 GMT) in Safoora Chorangi area of Karachi, the capital city of the country's south Sindh province, when at least six to eight attackers sprayed bullets at the bus and fled the scene.

The bus was carrying an estimated 65 people of a special community.

Witnesses said the attackers stopped the bus and shot indiscriminately at the people inside before they boarded the bus and fired at the passengers again, which resulted in a large number of fatalities.

The killed included 15 women and 25 men as well as the bus driver. The injured people have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Jinnah Hospital.

Police cordoned off the area for an investigation. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah condemned the attack and suspended two police officers. Endi
