12 killed in India as new quakes strike Nepal

At least 12 people were killed in India when two major quakes hit neighboring Nepal Tuesday, said officials.

At least 10 people were dead in Bihar in eastern India and two in Uttar Pradesh in northern India, both bordering Nepal.

The National Disaster Response Force was put on alert for rescue and relief operations after the quakes, whose tremors were felt throughout northern and eastern India.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting to take stock of the situation and directed authorities to be on high alert for rescue and relief operations.

Modi tweeted that he has "directed all concerned authorities to be on alert for carrying out rescue and relief operations, as required." Endi
