Former world No.1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia was given the chance on Monday to play in this year's World Championships despite a low world ranking of 46.
Badminton Association of Malaysia dropped Chong Wei Feng, 27, to accommodate Lee Chong Wei, a two-time Olympic silver medallist.
Lee and former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli, 22, will play in this year's World Championships to be held in Jakarta in August.
Badminton Association of Malaysia president Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff said Lee Chong Wei was chosen as he still has the potential to win the championship.
Lee Chong Wei performed a strong comeback on the opening day of the BWF Sudirman Cup on Sunday after an eight-month sanction for doping.
During Malaysia's 3-2 win over South Korea on Monday, the former world No. 1 beat South Korea's Lee Dong Keun 21-12, 21-10 to give Malaysia a 2-1 lead.
The Sudirman Cup was Lee Chong Wei's first tournament after serving an eight-month ban over a doping violation committed at the last year's World Championships in Copenhagen. Endi
