Four buses ablaze in Copenhagen, vandalism suspected

Xinhua, May 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four buses were burned down in Denmark's capital city of Copenhagen in the early morning hours of Friday and it is highly suspected that vandalism was involved in the incident, local media reported.

No one was injured in the fire, which occurred in the bus company Arriva's parking garage in the Copenhagen district of Oesterbro, according to police sources.

The police are still investigating whether the buses were set ablaze on purpose.

"Parked buses don't catch fire on their own too often. Therefore we have reason to assume that the fires were set," police spokesman Kristian Aaskov was quoted by local newspaper Politiken as saying.

Local media suspected that the incident was connected to a controversial advertisements calling for a boycott of goods from Israeli settlements.

Previously, the Danish Palestinian Friendship Association has paid for the advertisement of the boycott campaign.

However, the advertisements were removed from 35 buses in the capital region last week. Endit
