Championship leader Hamilton fastest in Spanish GP training

Xinhua, May 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton dominated the second practice session ahead of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix in the Montmelo circuit just outside of Barcelona.

Although Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was faster in the first session of the day, Hamilton showed Mercedes will be the team to beat once again when he posted the fastest lap time of the day 1: 26,852, comfortably ahead of Vettel's 1:27.260.

Hamilton's team-mate Nico Rosberg was third with 1:27,616, while Vettel's companion in Ferrari, Kimi Raikkonen was fourth in 1.27:780 as the two teams continue to dominate.

There was a slight improvement in the performance of McLaren car of Spanish favorite Fernando Alonso.

Alonso has yet to win a point this season, but his car does appear to be improving if his 11th place on Friday is anything to go by, even if his time was almost two seconds slower than Hamilton.

Jenson Button was seventh in the qualifying session, giving another hint that McLaren could have turned the corner, although after training Alonso, who suffered a bad crash in Barcelona in pre-season training, commented his side would, "have to get everything right if we want to finish higher up."

Saturday sees the final qualifying session ahead of Sunday's race. Endite
