Xinhua, May 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Vietnam men's national football team jumped up one place to 124th in the FIFA rankings for May, maintaining top position in Southeast Asia with 229 points, local newspaper People reported Friday.

The Philippines leapt up two places to second in the Southeast Asian ladders and 137th in the world standings. Following Vietnam and the Philippines in Southeast Asia are Thailand (142nd in the world), Timor Leste (151st), Myanmar (158th), Indonesia (159th), Singapore (162nd) and Malaysia (166th).

In May, Vietnam will play two significant matches against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on May 17 and Thailand on May 24.

Results of the matches are expected to affect Vietnam's position in the FIFA rankings for June.

The world top 10 rankings saw little change this month, with Germany, Argentina and Belgium defending the top three positions with 1,687, 1,494 and 1,457 points respectively. Endit
