Tokyo stocks closed 0.45 percent higher as global bond selling took a breather.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 87.2 points, from Thursday at 19,379.19. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 13.12 points, or 0.83 percent, higher at 1,587.76.

Gainers were led by bank, fishery and agriculture, and air transportation issues.

The turnover was 2,800.17 billion yen (about 23.34 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
