Israeli activists protest against animal suffering

Xinhua, May 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Israel's animal rights activists staged Wednesday a protest in central Tel Aviv, squeezing themselves into an animal transportation truck and wearing cattle ear tags, in a demonstration of the suffering of animals transported to a slaughterhouse.

The protesters wearing rags drove through Rothschild Boulevard, a hub filled with trendy restaurants and cafes.

The organizers from several animal groups, including Anonymous for Animal Rights and Let Animals Live, urged Israelis "not to look away" from the suffering of farmed animals, calling them to go vegan instead.

In recent years, reports and research by animal groups showed harsh conditions of animals, including extremely packed boxes for poultry transportation and the use of stun guns and beatings to push mammals inside trucks.

In Israel, some 220 million animals, including chickens, calves, cattle, sheep and goats, are transported annually. Endit
