Sudan's anti-aircraft weapons confront moving object over military area: army

Xinhua, May 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Sudanese Army Wednesday said its anti-aircraft weapons confronted a moving object over Wadi Saydna's military area in Omdurman city, west of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, late Tuesday evening.

"A suspicious moving object was sighted north of Omdurman city where anti-aircraft weapons confronted it," Sudanese army spokesman Al-Sawarmy Khalid Saad told reporters Wednesday.

"Commanders of the Sudanese air defense force rushed to the site to investigate the matter and it appeared there was no existing internal or foreign aggression," he noted.

He said the security situation is under control, reassuring citizens that there is nothing to worry about.

Strong explosion sounds were heard at Wadi Saydna in Omdurman city Tuesday evening as media reported Wednesday that the Israeli air force targeted a long-range missile manufacturing firm in Sudan.

Israel accused the Sudanese government of storing long-range missiles allotted for the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement and allowing its territories to be used as a transport byway for arms from Iran to HAMS in the Gaza Strip.

Israel previously launched missiles into Sudan in April 2011 targeting a Sudanese businessman's vehicle, and Israeli warplanes targeted Al-Yarmouk arms factory south of the Sudanese capital Khartoum in October 2012. Endit
