90 pct of Austrians unhappy with their income: survey

Xinhua, May 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

90 percent of Austrians aged between 16 and 65 consider their income to be either low or at best average and wish they could earn around 3,360 U.S. dollars net per month in order to lead a "good life," a new survey revealed on Tuesday has claimed.

The money-related survey of 1,000 people from market research institute GfK and commissioned by financial services company Allianz said men on average wanted 3,912 dollars a month compared to women with 2,660 dollars. In comparison the actual average income in the country is only about 1,940 dollars net per month.

Men typically said they wanted to spend more money on cars, consumer electronics, and their hobbies, while women placed more emphasis on clothing, cosmetics, and vacations.

In order to become "wealthy," 54 percent of respondents said inheritance is important, followed by the right career choice (50 percent), and lotto wins and family allowances (43 percent each).

Only 29 percent put an emphasis on hard work, and 26 percent on a good education.

Allianz said in terms of role models in earning money, the respondents ranked Red Bull boss and Austrian national Dietrich Mateschitz first, followed by their own fathers, best friends, and partners. Other prominent role models were Bill Gates, Frank Stronach, and Warren Buffett. Endit
