New U.S. university being built in Malta

Xinhua, May 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Maltese government on Tuesday signed an agreement with Lebanese investor Hani Salah, CEO and chairman of the Sadeen Group, to officially approve a U.S. university to be constructed south of Malta.

Intended to cater to 4,000 students, the university will be built on a stretch of land near Marsaskala and cost 115 million euros (128 million U.S. dollar) to construct.

According to Malta Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, the agreement marks a significant step towards Malta becoming a hub for education since the university will attract students from all over the world. He added the university will be partly funding a national park that the government is planning to set up in its vicinity.

However, a number of environmental non-governmental organizations are opposing the use of land outside development zones for the construction of the university. Endit
