Monchengladbach extends contract with Dutch defender Brouwers

Xinhua, May 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Monchengladbach extended the contract with defender Roel Brouwers for one year, the "Foals" confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

The Dutch centre-back renewed his expiring contract by inking a one-year extension until June 2016.

"Roel is a reliable person who proved his significance for the team this season again. He has earned this contract extension but aside from that we are delighted to have him here for another season," Monchengladbach's sporting director Max Eberl said.

The 33-year-old defender joined Monchengladbach from Paderborn in the summer 2007. The Dutchman is now since eight years the key player of the "Foals" defence. He scored 16 goals in 198 appearances.

"I am very pleased that we have been able to extend my contract for another year. I have been eight years with the club and I feel incredibly comfortable here," the defence veteran said.

Lucien Favre's men sit currently on the third place, a UEFA Champions League spot, of the Bundesliga standings.

Monchengladbach face fourth placed Leverkusen to battle for the direct Champions League qualification at the 32nd round of Bundesliga on Saturday. Endi
