1st LD Writethru: Blast kills 1, wounds 3 in Afghan southern Kandahar city

One person was killed and three others were injured as a blast rocked Kandahar's provincial capital the Kandahar city, 450 km south of Kabul on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and injuring three others, police said.

"An explosive device went off in 14th Police district of Kandahar city at 11:30 a.m. local time today, killing one civilian and wounding three others including two police and a civilian," police spokesman in the province, Zia Durani told reporters here.

He said that first a person opened fire onto a shop and when police rushed to the site and explosive device went off there causing the casualties.

Without giving more details, the official added that investigation has been initiated into the case.

Taliban militants fighting the government and have speeded up activities over the past couple of weeks are yet to claim responsibility. Endi
