Martinez confident as Bayern prepares for Barca challenge

Xinhua, May 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bayern Munich's Spain international midfielder Javi Martinez will be available for their trip to play FC Barcelona in the Camp Nou Stadium on Wednesday night.

The midfielder, who left Athletic Club Bilbao to sign for the German Champions, has just returned to action after recovering from a knee operation and although he is unlikely to start on Wednesday, his versatility will be vital on the subs' bench.

"I feel Ok and have no problems," said Martinez in an interview with sports paper, Marca.

"I was a bit lost after so long without playing, but not so much as when I returned to training," he added.

Bayern will be without several key players for their Champions League semifinal, among them Arjen Robben, who will miss the rest of the season with a muscle problem.

"It is an incredible series of injuries, but these things happen, sometimes you have a season and everyone stays fit, but we have had a lot of people injured just at the moment of the campaign when everything is there to be played for," said Martinez, who preferred to look at Bayern's strength in depth

"It's important to have a big squad like Bayern. You could see that when we beat Porto in the quarter-finals. We had a lot of players out, but we are able to beat anyone," he said, with a message for Barcelona.

"We don't care who we play in the semifinals, What we want to do is to win the Champions League again and if you want to do that, you have to beat the best. Whoever we play we will go out with the same idea," he commented.

Martinez admitted Barca were the toughest rival in semi-finals, because they pressed harder, won possession back and were solid in defense. But he said that in Pep Guardiola Bayern had one big advantage... "we have the best coach in the World," concluded Martinez. Endi
