Roundup: Afghan fighting claims 39 lives in 2 days

Over three dozen people, the majority of whom militants, have been killed in the ongoing militancy and conflicts in Afghanistan over the past two days, officials said Monday.

In the latest violent incident which rattled the capital city Kabul Monday morning, a suicide bomber blew himself up next to a bus of the employees of Attorney General Office, killing himself and another, besides injuring 15 more people, all civilians.

"The Ministry of Interior Affairs condemns in its strongest term the terrorist attack on innocent civilians which resulted in the martyrdom of one civilian and wounding 15 other civilians," the ministry said in a statement released here hour after the attack.

The bloody bombing in Kabul took place amid heavy fighting between Taliban and security forces in the northern Kunduz province. "A total of 11 armed insurgents including two local commanders namely Mullah Shirzai Gajr and Molovi Qurishi have been killed as security forces conducted cleanup operations in Imam Sahib and Chahar Dara districts, Kunduz province this morning," a statement of Interior Ministry released here said.

Eleven more militants sustained injuries during the operations, the statement further said.

Moreover, operations against militants in the southern Zabul province have left 26 insurgents dead since Sunday.

"Security forces have pounded insurgents' positions in Shahjoi and Siori districts from ground and air since Sunday and so far 26 rebels have been killed," spokesman for Zabul provincial government, Gul Islam Sayal told Xinhua.

Without revealing the casualties on the government troop side, the official contended that seven more militants have been injured.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in contact with media claimed killing 32 police and capturing 17 others in Wardoj district of the northern Badakhshan province Sunday night, a claim rebuffed by local officials as baseless.
