Secret police guard Vietnam's first pedestrian street

Besides many surveillance cameras installed at Nguyen Hue Square, special police in plain clothes will patrol along Nguyen Hue Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City to safeguard safety and order at Vietnam's first pedestrian street, a local police officer told reporters here Monday.
The cameras and secret police are to timely detect and detain those who steal or rob assets of people on Nguyen Hue Street which officially became Vietnam's first pedestrian street on April 29, one day ahead the 40th anniversary of national reunification, senior lieutenant colonel Nguyen Si Quang from Ho Chi Minh City Police, said at a press briefing to announce the city's order and security situations during recent national holidays and May Day.
The senior lieutenant colonel said that safeguarding order, safety and security at Nguyen Hue pedestrian street is a heavy task of the municipal police because the street is frequented by many domestic and foreign tourists as well as city-dwellers. The street houses many buildings which are of historical or political significance.
The municipal police will install more surveillance cameras at newly-established Nguyen Hue Square, announced the senior lieutenant colonel.
The police said that during the weeklong holidays that ended on May 1, Ho Chi Minh City saw 76 criminal cases, down from 72 cases in the same period last year. Of the cases, the police have detected and handled 55. Endi
