India says negotiations to acquire French fighter jets to begin this month

Xinhua, May 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

India on Monday said that negotiations for the multi-million dollar deal to acquire Rafale fighter jets from France would begin this month.

"The government to government committee will be set up which will begin negotiations on the deal. The negotiations will start anytime in May and we have to conclude them as early as possible," Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar told the media in the western state of Goa.

The defense minister's remarks came barely two days ahead of French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian's visit to India to finalize the Rafale fighter jet deal.

"He will visit only for the purpose of setting up modalities and take the process forward," Parrikar said. Endi
