Macao's gaming revenues sustain 11th straight monthly fall in April

Xinhua, May 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Macao's gross gaming revenues slumped 38.8 percent year-on-year to 19.16 billion patacas (2.40 billion U. S. dollars) in April, the Gaming Inspection & Coordination Bureau said on Monday.

It is the 11th consecutive monthly fall that the local gambling industry had suffered since high rollers steered clear of the casino hub.

The total gaming revenues stand at 83.94 billion patacas (10.51 billion U.S. dollars) in the first four months this year, down by 37.1 percent from a year earlier, according to figures released by the bureau.

Macao has seen a sharp drop in gaming revenues since last June, with its gross domestic product shrinking by 0.4 percent.

However, Macao's economy remained sound as a whole, and the government will accelerate the strategic adjustment of the economic structure and promote diversified development, said Lionel Leong Vai Tac, Macao's Secretary for Economy and Finance. Endi
