Still smart from losing the women's singles title to Ding Ning a day ago, Liu Shiwen found some solace in Sunday's doubles final where she paired with Zhu Yuling to victory.
The all-Chinese clash saw Liu/Zhu beat Ding/Li Xiaoxia in 8-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-8, 11-8.
In Saturday's singles final, world second-ranked Liu was obviously distracted by a medical break called for Ding, which broke Liu's winning pace that saw her win the sixth set 11-4 and lead 2-0 in the deciding set.
When Ding limped back to action after team doctor treated her right ankle for over 10 minutes, Liu seemed to lose concentration and made a string of errors, letting the world top-ranked rival grab her second world singles title since 2010.
"I accepted yesterday's result and that's what competition is about," said Liu at the post-doubles conference.
"Today more people rooted for me and my partner, and I am very grateful,They were sympathizing with me for I had lost a close final.
"This is my first individual world championships title and I really enjoy this stage."
Li Jie from the Netherlands and Li Qian of Poland, the losing semifinalists to Ding/Li, shared the third place with Singapore's Feng Tianwei/Yu Mengyu. Endi
