Nepal's political parties should come together after earthquake: ex-PM

Nepalese former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, said on Saturday that it is time for all political parties to come together after the powerful earthquake.

"In this difficult period in history, we should come together," Prachanda told Xinhua.

"This is a challenge and opportunity to come to a consensus to draft the constitution," he said, referring to the country's long process of constitution drafting due to disputes among parties.

Prachanda chairman of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal ( Maoist), expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their support and coordination following the April 25 earthquake, which claimed more than 6,000 lives.

One week after the disaster, international rescue efforts have been going on and rehabilitation is to start soon.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai told Xinhua that China has sent over 300 rescuers and medical workers to the quake-hit nation along with 30 flights of relief goods. Endi
