Xinhua, May 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Myanmar has set to hold the 52nd Myanmar Gems Emporium in Nay Pyi Taw in June-July this year to boost gem sale and local and foreign merchants are invited to attend, the Ministry of Mines said on Friday.

In the 51st Myanmar Gems Emporium last July, total sale reached 3.4 billion U.S. dollars. The record-breaking sale, which was 1 billion U.S. dollars more than that for the previous event, saw the successful auction of over 6,000 jade lots, 126 gem lots and 224 pearl lots.

Myanmar started to hold the gem fair in 1964 and it has become an event held thrice a year.

The latest official figures show that in 2013-14, Myanmar yielded 15,061 tons of jade and 16.31 million carats of gems which include ruby, sapphire, spinel and peridot, as well as 351,641 mommis (1,317 kg) of pearl. Endi
