Albanian public debt touches record high

For the first time in Albania's history, public debt has reached the level of 1 trillion lek (7.7 billion U.S. dollars), Albanian Daily News reported on Thursday.

Thus, public debt has touched the level of 72 percent of the GDP while the Albanian government, as agreed with the International Monetary Fund, aims to reduce it to 65.5 percent in 2017.

This historical record, achieved on March 31 of this year, was announced by the Ministry of Finance, although not final ones.

Experts said on Thursday that this is the result of weak economic growth and lack of income. Endit
