Exports by Irish companies hit all-time high

Xinhua, May 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Exports by Irish companies increased by 10 percent in 2014 to hit an all-time high of 18.6 billion euros (20.9 billion U.S. dollars), the government announced on Thursday.

Growth was recorded in exports to all international markets and across all sectors, according to the official figures published by Enterprise Ireland, the Irish leading state economic development agency focused on helping Irish-owned business deliver new export sales.

Greatest wins came from the software sector with exports up by 19 percent, followed by the construction and life sciences manufacturing sectors, it said.

Demand for Irish exports showed greatest growth in the Latin America and Asia Pacific regions, up 42 percent and 25 percent respectively, while demand for Irish goods in the UK grew by 9 percent to a record 6.8 billion euros.

"It is especially encouraging to see significant gains in established markets like the UK and North America and the high growth economies of Asia Pacific and Latin America," Julie Sinnamon, CEO of Enterprise Ireland.

"Also noteworthy are record performances from the Irish software, construction and life science sectors," she said. Endit
