Power cut in south London forces evacuation of train passengers

Xinhua, April 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

About 1,000 train passengers were evacuated from a train stranded outside a station in Battersea, south London Thursday morning, the local fire department said.

The London Fire Brigade said firefighters were called at 10:03 a.m. local time (0903 GMT) to evacuate passengers from a train outside Clapham Junction station in Battersea.

"We used a short extension ladder to assist Network Rail and British Transport Police in detraining approximately 1,000 people along the tracks and onto a rail replacement bus service, said Nic Myatt, station manager, who was at the scene.

Network Rail said there was an electrical power supply problem between two train stations.

London Fire Brigade said Spencer Park and Battersea Rise roads were closed and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Local media reported that some trains serving the area would be delayed. Endit
