Zambia will host this year's United Nations Conference on Land-Locked Developing Countries (LLDC), state-run news agency reported on Thursday.
Zambia, the current chair of the LLDC will host the conference from June 2 to 4, according to the Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS).
Minister of Transport, Communications, Works and Supply Yamfwa Mukanga said Zambia would be among 32 other LLDC countries that will attend the event to be held in the southern city of Livingstone.
The Zambian minister, who is chairman of the Ministerial Committee for LLDC, said 16 of the member countries will come from Africa while the rest would be from Asia and Latin America.
The conference, he said, would provide an opportunity to market Zambia as a prime investment destination, as well as increased flow of international tourists.
The conference would also address transit regulations as well as how to lower the cost of doing business in LLDC member states, he added.
According to him, top on the agenda is to follow the Vienna Conference 10-year program of action.
The 10-year action program is aimed at accelerating sustainable development in the world's 32 LLDCs. The action program contains six defined priorities and encapsulates a unified stance by the international community on a broad array of crucial issues- from concrete steps towards the structural transformation of LLDC economies and infrastructure development, to improving international trade and bolstering regional integration and cooperation.
